Overflow

The Overflow Manifesto

All flourishing is mutual.

Why we’re building Overflow — and who it’s for.

The problem we see

There’s a painful irony in relationship-based business.

The people who grow through genuine connection — coaches and consultants, nutritionists and financial planners, healers, course creators — are so often the ones who struggle most to fill their practices.

Not because they aren’t good at what they do. Not because the world doesn’t need them. But because, all too often, marketing feels like a betrayal of everything they stand for.

They’ve watched the marketing industry celebrate manipulation at scale — “growth hacks” that treat humans as conversion targets, cold emails and automated sequences that pretend to be personal while being sent to ten thousand people at once.

And they’ve said: “I’d rather stay small than become that.”

So they stay invisible. They post occasionally and hope someone finds them. They rely on word-of-mouth and watch their savings dwindle. They wonder if they should just get a “real job.”

Meanwhile, the world is full of people desperately seeking what they offer — but who can’t find them.

This is the gap we’re here to bridge.

What we believe

Marketing doesn't have to feel manipulative.

Because authentic marketing actually works better than manipulation. The data proves it: values-aligned messaging gets higher response rates, better conversions, longer customer lifetime value.

When you reach out to someone whose work resonates with yours and say “I see you, I appreciate what you're building, here's how we might support each other” — they respond.

But most marketing tools are built for a different philosophy: volume over quality, speed over thoughtfulness, extraction over exchange.

All flourishing is mutual.

Real growth isn't zero-sum. When a coach fills their program, lives change. When a consultant lands the right client, a business transforms. When a healer or an artist finds their people, something in the world gets a little more whole. Everyone involved flourishes.

This isn't naive idealism — it's how sustainable businesses actually work. Companies that create value for all stakeholders outperform those that optimize only for shareholders. Communities built on reciprocity last longer than those built on hype.

Technology should amplify your values, not compromise them.

AI and automation were built in service of profit maximization — they make sending 10,000 impersonal pitches easy, and invite you to see outreach as a numbers game.

But combine values like authenticity and human connection with a little creative thinking, and you can “hack” these same tools to help one human understand which 20 humans to reach out to personally — and what those humans actually care about.

Relationship-based businesses deserve tools built for them.

Overflow isn't the first company to use automation and AI in lead generation. Clay is an amazing product… for technical sales teams. Apollo is powerful… for B2B reps optimizing conversion funnels.

But those tools speak a language you don't speak. Their interfaces assume you think in “pipeline velocity” and “conversion optimization.” You need something that understands why you got into this work in the first place — and why you'd rather make less doing work you believe in than more doing something hollow.

What relationship-based outreach actually means

The practice of finding and connecting with people who genuinely need what you offer, using methods that honor both your values and theirs.

  • Connection over volume. Reaching 20 aligned people thoughtfully beats spamming 2,000 strangers. We help you find the right 20.
  • Context over templates. Generic messages don't work — humans can smell them immediately. We help you understand each person's actual context so you can reach out meaningfully.
  • Giving before asking. The best outreach offers value first: “I appreciated your podcast on grief work — here's a resource I think might serve your community.” We build this into every message.
  • Reciprocity over extraction. You're not acquiring leads, you're initiating relationships. Some work out, some won't — all of them should leave both people better than before.
  • Boundaries over hustle. You shouldn't have to send 100 messages a day to grow. That's unsustainable, and it degrades quality. We set intentional limits that keep you aligned.
  • Transparency over manipulation. Every person you reach out to should understand why they're hearing from you. We make this explicit, not hidden.
  • Quality over quantity. One perfectly aligned client is worth ten who are lukewarm. We optimize for alignment, not just conversion.

What Overflow does

Relationship-based outreach at scale. We combine smart web scraping, AI-powered enrichment, and thoughtful message generation to help you:

  1. 1

Find people genuinely aligned with your work

Not just anyone with an email address, but humans doing things that resonate with your values.

  2. 2

    Understand their context deeply

Their mission, their style, their clientele, what they care about.

  3. 3

Reach out in ways that feel personal and thoughtful

Because they are — even when you're reaching 100 people instead of 10.

  4. 4

Build real relationships that lead to mutual flourishing

    Not just one-off transactions.

We do this through technology — AI, automation, data enrichment. But the technology serves the relationship, not efficiency for its own sake.

How we’re different

Other lead-gen tools

  • Scrape blindly for volume
  • Optimize for “conversions” without caring what happens after
  • Train you to think of humans as “prospects” and “pipeline”
  • Celebrate “hacks” that manipulate psychology
  • Measure success as revenue per dollar spent

Overflow

  • +Scrape intentionally for alignment
  • +Optimize for mutual benefit and long-term relationship quality
  • +Remind you that you're reaching whole humans with complex inner lives
  • +Celebrate integrity and reciprocity
  • +Measure success as thriving practices doing meaningful work

Who this is for

  • Coaches of every kind life, wellness, business, and career coaches who know they can help people but hate feeling salesy about it.
  • Consultants and advisors financial planners, mortgage brokers, and specialists who win on trust and referrals, not cold pitches.
  • Nutritionists and health practitioners who fill their practice through relationships, not ad spend.
  • Retreat and workshop leaders who need programs full of the right people — not just anyone who can pay.
  • Healers and somatic practitioners who want a full practice but feel gross about marketing tactics.
  • Course creators and educators who have something worth teaching but don't want to become influencers.

Anyone who has ever thought: “I wish I could just focus on doing good work with the right people, and not have to deal with all this icky marketing.”

What this isn’t

Overflow is not:

  • A way to spam thousands of people at once
  • A tool for aggressive cold emailing
  • Built for traditional sales funnels or conversion optimization
  • A way to pretend automation is personal when it isn't
  • A shortcut that bypasses the work of understanding your audience

If you want to blast 10,000 generic pitches and see what sticks, there are better tools for that. But if you genuinely want to grow your practice without compromising your integrity — and you’re willing to be thoughtful even when using automation — this is for you.

The invitation

We’re building Overflow because the world needs more relationship-based businesses thriving, not starving. Your work matters — but you can’t serve people who can’t find you, and you shouldn’t have to betray your values to get visible.

There’s another way. It’s possible:

  • Grow your practice sustainably.
  • Reach aligned clients at scale.
  • Use technology without selling your soul.
  • Market in ways that build relationships instead of burning them.
  • Fill your programs while staying in integrity.
  • Do meaningful work and make a good living.

Join us

We’re just getting started. Overflow is in its earliest days — imperfect, evolving, learning. But the foundation is solid: all flourishing is mutual. Marketing can be honest. You deserve tools that honor who you are.

If this resonates, we’d love to have you as part of this experiment in what business growth can look like when it’s aligned with actual human values. Let’s build something better together.

— Joseph Arnold & the Overflow team

P.S. We’re practicing what we preach. This manifesto isn’t a sales pitch disguised as values — it’s an invitation to humans who share these beliefs to explore whether we can support each other. Some of you will use Overflow. Some won’t. Either way, we hope this perspective serves you.
